Soons compete at Cow Run

The Mayfair Cross Country teams competed in their first meet of the season last Saturday at the Great Cow Run. The Soons completed the 3 mile course in eight different races.

Varsity:

Behind a performance that saw the top 5 Mayfair runners finish within 17 places and 47 seconds of each other, the Varsity Boys team finished in 34th place. Senior Josiah Jackson covered the course in 17:54, followed closely by Junior Fred Torres in 18:00. Junior Matthew Ayala (18:27) , Senior Paul Cuellar (18:35), and Junior Robert Gomez (18:41), rounded out the varsity scoring.

On the girls side, senior Lisa Higgins and Tori Castillo were the only two runners who ran varsity for Mayfair. Higgins led the way with a 21:02 with Castillo following in 22:35.

Sophomores:

Sophomores Mark Young (18:37) and Tyler Stibal (18:49) led the Boys Sophomore team to a 25th place finish.

Sophomore Veronika Ferrell was the fastest Monsoon in the Girls Sophomore race with a 23:44 three-mile time.

Freshmen:

Freshman John Cuellar finished the course in 18:53 to take 83rd out of 311 runners in the race.

Freshman Wendy Villalobos was the top Freshmen Girl finisher for the Soons with a 23:55

JV:

Junior Omar Navarro (18:42) and senior Bahman Farihi (18:57) were the top finishers on the boys side.

Senior Alyssa Betancourt finished in 52nd out of 191 runners with a time of 22:36 to lead the JV team.

The Monsoons will compete next against Avalon High School on Catalina Island on September 9th.
