Girls Cross Country to compete at CIF Prelims

After a fourth place finish at the Suburban League Finals last Thursday, the Monsoon girls cross country team qualified for the CIF prelims at the Riverside City Cross Country Course. Mayfair was placed in the first heat of the division 2 prelims, which will be run at 8:37 am on Saturday morning. Junior Tori Castillo and senior Lisa Higgins have consistently led the Monsoon girls throughout the season.

Several teams ranked in division 2 are in the Monsoons heat, including top ranked Claremont, 6th-ranked Northwood, 7th-ranked San Marcos, 12th-ranked Channel Islands, and (t)13th-ranked Mission Viejo.

Several Suburban League schools will also be competing on Saturday. On the girls side, La Mirada girls, who placed second in the Suburban league will compete in the second heat of division 2 just after the Monsoons. 6th-ranked league champion Norwalk and third place Cerritos will also compete on Saturday in the second heat of division 3.

On the boys side, league champion La Mirada will race in the first race on Saturday morning in the first heat of division 2 racing while second-place Cerritos and third-place will face off against stiff competition in the first heat of division 3. The final qualifier on the boy’s side was Bellflower, who will compete in the second heat of division three.
