Most of the Mayfair track and field team finished up their seasons on Saturday afternoon, but Joy Umeh jumped herself into the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Finals in the triple jump.

The sophomore used a 36-05.75 to finish second in her flight and eighth overall to claim a spot at next weekend’s finals. Her improvement from 35-09 was enough to go from a 13 seed to an eighth place finish. Tara Davis, a senior from Agoura, was the top qualifier with a 39-10.00, while Cameryn Caffey of Colony was the final qualifier in ninth with a 36-02.25. She will be competing next Saturday at Cerritos College.

Several other Monsoons competing turned in times better than their league final qualifying times.

The girls 4x400m team improved their time by nearly three seconds. After entering in as the 33rd ranked team with a 4:15.11, Destiny Clark, Maritza Rodriguez, Alaya Davis, and Sydairee Dudley placed 25th with a time of 4:12.36.

Junior Jada Wright finished just shy of qualifying for CIF finals in the high jump. Her jump of 4-11 tied her for 14th place, just two inches off of ninth place.

The boys 4x100m team of Kameron Small, Chris Adimora, Sirr Parker, and Niko Billew ran a 43.64, an improvement over their league finals time of 43.76. They finished in 19th after entering as the 26th seeded team.

Billew was the next closest to qualifying for finals after Wright. His 22.38 was significantly faster than his 22.61 finish last week and earned him a 17th place finish.

He was back on the track just a few minutes later for the third time of the day in the 4x400m. He joined up with Adimora Cameron Carson, and Kevin Cole to run a 3:31.45.
