The Mayfair cross country teams competed at the 2016 Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Friday evening. The invitational is one of the biggest in Southern California with 52 races over two days.
Varsity Boys: Senior Josiah Jackson led the way for the Monsoons, covering the 3-mile course in 17:20, over 30 seconds faster than his Great Cow Run time. Junior Matthew Ayala came next, breaking the 18:00 minute barrier with a time of 17:55. Juniors Fred Torres and Omar Navarro were not far behind, coming in at 18:15 and 18:16 respectively. Paul Cuellar rounded out the scoring for Mayfair, crossing the line at 18:26.
Varsity Girls: Senior Lisa Higgins-King finished in 21:39, Mayfair’s top time of the day, while senior Alyssa Betancourt came in 30 seconds later at 22:09.
Junior Boys: Bahman Farihi’s ran a 18:32, good enough for 85th place.
JV Girls: Junior Tori Castillo ran the second fastest time of the day for the Monsoon girls team, coming in 63rd place with a 22:05. Senior Jenna Yeaman cross the line in 22:54, making her Mayfair’s fourth fastest finisher of the day.
Sophomore Boys: The Monsoons top performer was Robert Garcia who ran a 19:07. Tyler Stibal was not far behind with a 19:21.
Sophomore Girls: Veronica Ferrell was the top performer for Mayfair, coming in at 23:27.
Frosh Boys: Freshman John Cuellar cross the line in 19:22, finishing as Mayfair’s top runner in this race in 62nd place.
