Behind solid play from Sarah Clausen, Skyler Williams, and Nana Fuimaono, the Monsoon volleyball team continued their impressive play to top the 32 team field and win the MHS/Valley Christian Tournament championship.
Mayfair controlled the best-of-three matches in pool play, winning each game in two sets. They opened by defeating El Modena 25-18 and 25-14. The second match was more the same as they defeated Bishop Conaty 25-13 and 25-10, while a dominate third match against Glendale (25-10, 25-6) clinched the pool.
After winning their pool, the tournament moved to single set matches. The Soons defeated Chadwick High School in a tight 26-24 to advance to a semi-final matchup with the top ranked Division 7 team in St. Anthony High School in which the Monsoons would prevail again, advancing to the finals on a 25-22 victory.
Coming off of the two close playoff matches, Mayfair took control in the final against Westridge, the 9th ranked team in Division 4, with a resounding 25-17 victory to win the tournament title.
The Monsoons were led by Sarah Clausen, whose strong play earned her the Tournament MVP award. Skyler Williams and Kanana Fuimaono also played well, resulting in All-Tournament recognition.
The Soons are now 10-2 overall and 2-0 in league. Next up is a matchup at John Glenn on Tuesday, September 20th.
