Four Mayfair girls wrestlers competed at the CIF-SS Championship Preliminaries with hopes of qualifying for Saturday’s Finals in order to have a shot at qualifying for state.
Elizabeth Graham led the Monsoons in Friday’s action. She recorded pins in two matches and won the consolation match to advance to Saturday’s Finals. She was eliminated in today’s morning session.
Cynthia Avila fell just short of qualifying for Saturday’s Finals. She advanced through the consolation bracket, but was pinned in the consolation championship to bring a close to her season.
Sofia Rivera lost her first match to move to the consolation bracket where she picked up a win in her second match. However, she was forced to drop out due to injury.
Ja’Mae Barnes was knocked out as well on Friday.
With no athletes qualifying for state, the first girls wrestling season in school history came to a close. It was a highly successful season for the Monsoons who won a Suburban League championship and had four athletes make it to the CIF-SS Championships.
