The Mayfair varsity girls track and field team turned in a strong performance at Friday night’s Suburban League Finals with four league champions, 11 top-3 finishes, and seven athletes qualifying for 10 CIF Southern Section Division 2 Prelims spots.
Joy Umeh turned in one of the best performances in the league. The sophomore broke the school record in the long jump with a distance of 17-02.00 to win the Suburban League title. She also won the triple jump (35-09.50) and was a member of the third place 4×100 meter team that ran a 50.54 and qualified for CIF. She will be going to CIF in all three events and is seeded 16th in the long jump and 13th in the triple jump.
Another sophomore, Destiny Clark, will be competing in multiple events as well. She was one of the four league champions on the girls side with her 8-00 jump in the pole vault. She was also a part of Mayfair’s 4x400m team that placed second with a time of 4:15.11.
Junior Jada Wright won the league championship in the high jump with a jump of 5-00. She will enter CIF as Mayfair’s highest seeded athlete in 10th place.
Sydairee Dudley, Alaya Davis, and Kylah Duvenary qualified for CIF in individual events as well as on the relay teams. Dudley finished second in the 400m with a time of 60.92 and was a member of both 4x100m and 4x400m teams. Davis finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:26.14 and was a part of the 4x400m team. Duvenary came in 3rd in the 300m hurdles with a 49.30 and was a a part of the 4x100m team.
Riyanna Jackson will also be competing at CIF after her third place finish in the triple jump. The sophomore recorded a jump of 34-00.00 to qualify for CIF.
Junior Nadine Silitai rounded out the top-3 finishes for the Monsoons. Silitai finished second in the discus with a throw of 96-10, but fell just over three feet short of qualifying for CIF.
The CIF Southern Section Division 2 Prelims will take place at Moorpark High School on Saturday.
